Unpopular Opinion?
Not having Agent Coulson stay dead creates little sense or danger or repercussion in the Marvel Movie Continuity. Opinion further validated by ending of Iron Man 3.
Yes I know it’s a adapted comic movie series but I’m looking at it from a screenwriter’s POV.
It’s not entirely unpopular. I’ve definitely seen it around.
However, I’m personally optimistic, and that was reinforced by this interview.
Snipping the relevant segments:
Clark Gregg: The executives at Marvel had joked about being in meetings where they were talking about how to bring Coulson back, but you know, I was there. There was a lot of blood. I felt pretty dead. So I was wary as to how can we do that in a way that doesn’t feel like it undermines any of the magic that I thought was there in “The Avengers,” and as soon as I heard the concept and saw the script, I realized it was worth doing.
Joss Whedon: And then, you know, “What about Coulson?” And obviously, the first question, was, “Will this upset the integrity of what we did in ‘The Avengers?’” You don’t want to do that. I worked in comics and TV and fantasy for a long time, and I know that there’s a right way and a wrong way to do stuff like that.
It’s like, “If we were going to have Coulson, how would we even do it?” Well, we’d do exactly this. That’s what I pitched to [Clark] on the phone, that’s what’s in the script, word for word, and it’s all about earning everything, so that people don’t feel that you lied, or that you pulled one over on them, that you have an explanation that you buy.
So, like I said, optimistic. Because they’re at least hyperaware that they have to do it right.
MY BODY IS READY.

… Oh my God, he is TOTALLY using a cane.
MY FEELS.
Agent Coulson’s Revival In AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Explained?
So there’s a rumour going around on various news sites about Coulsons revival, but it’s kind of underwhelming and pretty much plays on the simple, logical explanation we can deduce from The Avengers, but I’m going to put it under a cut, anyways.
It’s not one I really buy, at least not exactly as presented.
1. It doesn’t seem all that Whedon-y.
aaand
2. Right on the heels of this quote of Clark’s where he said that the manner Joss cooked to bring Coulson back was “his answer was so perfect and so complex and so delicately managed to not undermine everything that came before”, it just seems kind of… ludicrously clunky.
I mean, I can certainly imagine some elements are there, but… (cut for potential maybe-spoilers.)
Clark just tweeted a link to this article/interview, which is all kinds of awesome and hilarious. Behind the scenes info on everything from Sex and the City to TNAOC to Much Ado About Nothing.
I cannot stop being amused that three of his ten memorable roles… are Coulson.
But man, I cackled a few times reading this thing. And then, my favorite bit:
“I will say that it takes place after The Avengers, and when I asked this very question to Joss, how Coulson might still be around, his answer was so perfect and so complex and so delicately managed to not undermine everything that came before, that I was in by the time he finished that sentence.”
Seriously. Is it out yet?
I knew it.
It’s very fun when you’re taking a walk and you check your phone and Clark’s retweeted you.
Attention Clark Gregg fans: Clark will be interviewed on HuffPost Live at 1:30 pm ET today (Tuesday, April 23)

SQUEEEEEE!!!
*ahem*
I got to see Clark Gregg’s new film Trust Me at the Tribeca Film Festival today, and it was fantastic! (And that’s true even after correcting for fangirl bias). I heartily recommend this movie… if you have a chance to see it, go. I spent around $150 on my little day-trip, what with travel costs and all, which is pretty much my discretionary money for the month, and it was totally worth it. The entire cast put in some excellent work on a really great script (dammit, that boy can write!), and young lead Saxon Sharbino is clearly going places. She is incredibly good :’) The editing and post-production all were very well done - Trust Me is the total package.
Clark did a brief post-film Q&A session which offered look into some aspects of his creative process, and of the whole process of getting a film into production. Very interesting stuff!
Before the movie, I got to meet, talk briefly (and no doubt incoherently) with, and get some photos of (and WITH!) Clark. (The above shot? Mine! :’) Outside the theatre after the film, he asked me how I had liked it, and I got a hug… I consider it a triumph of self-restraint that I did not follow him down the street like a puppy after that :’) Clark really is just as sweet a guy as everybody says.
I’ll post a few more pics later, I have got to fall down now
I’ll just sit here and stare a while.
That Asgardian Bastard.

Legitimately one of the greatest mental images ever.
I seriously cannot stop laughing. Stumbled upon this with some lucky googling. Enjoy Clark Gregg in a commercial from 1992.
“I’m Clark Gregg and I play Agent Leonato. Oh, I’m sorry, I seem to just add that onto everything these days.”
I cannot with this man.
